Paying the Piper: Reparations for “Free” Trade?

Rcooley123's Blog

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is designed to help workers adjust to having their jobs shipped abroad in the aftermath of a free trade agreement. Experience from previous free trade agreements (NAFTA is the most prominent among them) indicates that American jobs do, indeed, get relocated to countries which have lower labor standards. In other words, American workers are replaced by workers in other countries who are paid lower wages, under harsher working conditions and/or weaker workplace protections than workers here enjoy. TAA seeks to encourage ratification of the trade agreement ( in this instance, the Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP) in Congress, by ameliorating the negative consequences of the job losses among workers here. The idea to aid in their transition by giving them training, education or other assistance in the new and improved American economy.

As things stand now, both Houses of Congress have sent the President a bill granting…

I worked for AT&T in the late 1990s, and all of our jobs were shipped overseas. Where are the checks for all of us, and the millions of others Clinton sold out?

Note, it is always a democrat in office when the working poor get screwed!

I have come to the conclusion that everything dealing with this is rigged, including gridlock.

My parents believed, for their entire lives, that the dems represented the “little guy” and the repubs the fat cats. Even though most dems hated everything my parents believed in, my parents would still support the dems. I would argue with my mother on this one issue all the time, and to no avail.

And as you and I know now, neither the left, right nor middle of our governments represent we the common people.

The problem is that the political spectrum has shifted so far to the right that what passes as left today, would’ve been considered far right 40 years ago. Maybe because it’s been a gradual process and they’ve kept us distracted with terrorism, war and misinformation so most people never even noticed the shift happening

It could be. Perhaps there were dems that cared more about the people when my parents were younger. But by the time I was out of college, in the late 70s, everything had changed.

High gear, yes, but the final agenda was launched on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

Once they had killed him off, they knew they owned the government. And no president since then has ever protested or blown the whistle. They know what will happen if they do, and they know this before they are “elected”!

That said, more people have woken up to what’s going on over the last couple of years, than in the previous fifty years. I think those numbers will continue to increase at a faster rate, as our quality of life continues to deteriorate. I don’t think it can go on like this much longer. The elite are going to have to do something drastic to retain their control, or they will eventually lose it

I am in total agreement with you. Even with the depressing article on Mericans and Europeans, I still believe you are correct here.

We have to remember, the dissenters out there will not be covered by the press, so the numbers of people ready to throw in the towel and kick ass could be huge!
